An official visit to the Safadu Correctional Service Centre in Kono, Sierra Leone’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, Esq., has commended ongoing efforts to strengthen inmate rehabilitation and correctional reform in Sierra Leone.
During a walkthrough of the facility, the Attorney General engaged directly with the Centre’s management and staff, led by Manager Madam Christiana Bangura. The visit provided an opportunity to assess operations and gain firsthand insight into programs aimed at rehabilitating inmates and reducing recidivism.
The engagement included one-on-one interactions with both male and female inmates, offering space for open dialogue about their experiences within the criminal justice system, the conditions of their incarceration, and their daily interactions with correctional officers. The discussions shed light on the challenges inmates face, as well as their perspectives on reform and reintegration.
The Attorney General expressed particular appreciation for the level of cleanliness and order maintained at the facility, describing it as a positive indicator of effective management. Commending Madam Bangura and her team for their dedication, the AG noted that the Centre demonstrates strong potential to serve as a model institution for correctional service reform in Sierra Leone.
Management of the Safadu facility reaffirmed their commitment to transforming the Centre into a standard-bearer for rehabilitation-focused corrections, with emphasis on skills training, behavioral reform, and structured reintegration programs designed to prepare inmates for life after incarceration.
