AYV MISS UNIVERSITY 2023/24: Amb. Navo officially unveils US$20,000 Star Prize including a Brand New Car at LOR Restaurant

Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire, Ambassador Anthony Navo Jr. has officially unveiled US$20,000 Star Prize including a brand new car at LOR Restaurant, for the AYV Miss University 2023/24 Pageant.

The unveiling was done at the LOR Restaurant in Freetown where Amb Navo; Jr engaged all nine contestants for the Miss University, event sponsors and partners, the media, bloggers and influencers, among other personalities.

Amb. Navo Jr. said: “I started the AYV journey with a passion to engage and empower young people including providing employment for young people and make a difference in the media landscape in Sierra Leone.

“The AYV was established in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report, which calls for a credible media space to engage and empower our people who are both our leaders of today and tomorrow.

“Today I am pleased to be here with our beautiful queens from various universities competing for the AYV Miss University 2023/2024. I am excited to officially unveil a brand new car as part of the Star Prize for Miss University here at the beautiful LOR Restaurant. This is not just about car or the money but more importantly is about empowering our young girls to pursue their dreams with beauty with a purpose.

“Who among the nine Queens will win the Crown, take home the brand new Suzuki Swift Car from Sharlimar Trading and represent Sierra Leone at Miss University Africa? We trust our beauty queens will learn and benefit from this Miss University experience.

“I appreciate the work of my dedicated team at AYV, all our partners and the Miss University Planning Committee. The AYV Miss University 2023/24 Pageant, being organised by the AYV and Africell in partnership with the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS) and Eminence Africa, will feature nine university reigning queens, representing IPAM, FBC, UNIMTECH, COMAHS, Limkokwing, MMTU and UNIMAK, will be held at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown on 26th April, 2024.

“As we move forward, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of journalistic practice in multimedia including in promoting and supporting good, accurate journalism based on content that is not only quality but also ethical, balanced, independent, critical and of public interest.

President of the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS), Mohamed Rex Bhonapha said: “The AYV Miss University pageant holds significant importance for several reasons. Firstly, it serves as a platform to celebrate the intelligence, talent, and beauty of the young women representing their respective universities. It’s an opportunity to showcase their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and leadership skills”.

He said NUSS is proud to support and promote this event and looks forward to seeing the incredible achievements and contributions of all the contestants.

Rex called on colleague students to support and attend the event to support the Pageant, which he said promotes unity and camaraderie among students from different universities across the nation.

He said: “It fosters a sense of pride and solidarity as contestants come together to support each other and compete in a spirit of sportsmanship. The AYV Miss University pageant serves as a forum to advocate for important social causes and issues affecting our society. Contestants often use their platform to raise awareness about topics such as education, women’s rights, environmental conservation, and community development”.

The pageant provides scholarships and other opportunities for personal and professional growth to the winners and participants. These opportunities can have a transformative impact on their lives and enable them to pursue their dreams and make positive contributions to society. It is more than just a beauty contest; it is a celebration of talent, intelligence, unity, and advocacy.
