AYV was identified for this support as part of the media development component of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA)

The media company was selected for this professional enhancement support as it has demonstrated commitment to professionalism and independence in its operations.

A statement from the Executive Director of MFWA Sulemana Braimah stated: “The objective of the support is to help AYV to become an example of a sustainable, professional and an impact-making media organisation in West Africa. It is our hope that this engagement will help AYV to serve as a shining example of a professional and sustainable media,”

The MFWA recruited Joseph Warungu a former BBC Africa Editor with over 25 years experience in international journalism to train and consult with AYV media staff and management.

Joseph Warungu is a seasoned media trainer and former Knight International Journalism Fellow who currently runs AfricaonAir, a Nairobi-based organisation that supports African media to improve professional standards through practical training and the production of quality content on issues that really matter to people such as health, education, security and business.

Warungu was also the head of The African Story Challenge. The $1million pan- African programme of reporting grants, supported by the Gates Foundation, sought to improve the quantity and quality of stories focused on development issues by equipping journalists with new tools and techniques to tell compelling, in depth stories using multi-format approaches.

Welcoming the media consultant, the President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AYV Ambassador Anthony Navo Jnr applauded (MFWA) and Warungu for their timely endeavour to train and capacitate AYV staff.

Ambassador Anthony Navo (Jnr) promised Warungu of a conducive working relationship between and among staff of AYV.
