SUN Movement he went on has inspired a new way of working collaboratively to end malnutrition in all its forms that is led by Government and supported by multiple stakeholders, adding that it has mobilized an unprecedented political will to improve the nutritional status of women and children.

The doctor furthered that the Government’s commitment to the Global Movement on reducing hunger and malnutrition, the SUN Secretariat in collaboration with the Civil Society Platform, Private Sector, the donor partner (Irish Aid) and United Nations Family (UNICEF, FAO, WFP, WHO etc.) has planned the Fair to support government’s efforts to end hunger and malnutrition, as well as improving access to health systems in Sierra Leone.

He said early this year, the Scaling Up Nutrition Secretariat and Partners decided that the nutrition fair should be an annual event, so as to give prominence to nutrition, adding that it was also decided that the Nutrition Fair should be alternated regionally.

“The National Nutrition Fair further aim to shine the spotlight on interventions that highlight national efforts to end hunger and malnutrition in all its forms and these include the promotion of preventive approaches to malnutrition such as the promotion of good infant and young child feeding practices; promotion of healthy eating habits; consumption of nutritious locally produced foods and promotion of positive health seeking behaviours.

The main objectives of the Nutrition Fair to create a platform to showcase interventions and actions that promote nutrition, food security, WASH and other health interventions; a platform for health and nutrition promotion to raise public awareness and impart key messages contributing to behavior change programmes on nutrition, food security WASH and health and most importantly a platform that opens discussion and to share information on food, health and Care” Dr. Foh stated.

He concluded that the initiative will ensure that every part of the country, every mother, child and family realizes their full potentials and the right not only to food, but also to health services.  This is why it is important that we create synergies and collaborate effectively with other established institutions and actors. He appealed to everyone, especially potential sponsors, to make the Fair a national success.
