The Chief Minister Hon JJ Saffa has challenged the leadership of the Ministry of Gender and its National Commission for Children to work on an immediate program aimed at addressing issues of street and foster children in Sierra Leone.

Addressing the Minister and senior members of the Ministry Hon JJ Saffa posited that the issues affecting vulnerable children in SL are alarming, and that there is every need to create a Gender Empowerment Fund and a National Sponsorship Program to address issues of vulnerable children in Sierra Leone.

In her statement, the Minister of Gender Hon MantyTarawallie informed all that as a new Ministry they have reviewed the Child Rights Acts, a National Strategy for SGBV Development, a Business Incubation Centre in Bo to promote access to value addition technology for women in Agric business. She however highlight challenges in the fiscal space, and staffing requirements as core.

The meeting ended with Chief Minister’s call for a multi-stakeholder’s meeting including the Ministries of Gender Affair, Social Welfare, Finance, Local Government, Agriculture and Youth Affairs, to address issues of common interventions.
