Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has held a strategic meeting with Habibu Bappah to assess preparations for the upcoming ECOWAS Summit and review progress on the Lungi Logistics Depot project.
The engagement brought together senior government officials and representatives of the Economic Community of West African States involved in coordinating key aspects of the summit. Discussions focused on ensuring timely delivery of critical infrastructure and logistical arrangements ahead of the regional gathering.
Dr. Sengeh emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders, noting that regular planning meetings are ongoing to keep preparations on track. “We have teams that meet regularly to plan for the summit. This engagement strengthens coordination and ensures we meet our deadlines,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of ECOWAS Commission President Omar Alieu Touray, Dr. Bappah commended President Julius Maada Bio for his leadership as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority. He also praised the Government of Sierra Leone for its commitment to hosting a successful summit.
Dr. Bappah explained that the ECOWAS delegation’s visit was aimed at assessing the country’s overall preparedness and evaluating progress on the Lungi Logistics Depot, a key facility expected to support the smooth running of summit activities and future regional engagements.
He further highlighted ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including improvements at the Bintumani Conference Centre and several major hotels, describing them as strong indicators of Sierra Leone’s readiness to host the high-level event.
According to Dr. Bappah, ECOWAS technical teams are working closely with government officials to ensure that the Logistics Depot is fully equipped and operational in time for the summit.
The meeting reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to delivering a successful ECOWAS Summit while advancing regional integration and strengthening the country’s role in West African affairs. Observers note that the ongoing preparations reflect the government’s broader agenda to enhance infrastructure and position Sierra Leone as a hub for international conferences and diplomatic engagements.
