Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has held a constructive engagement with the President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, Mrs. Tuma Jabbi Gento-Kamara, on the proposed Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Act, 2025. The meeting forms part of ongoing nationwide consultations aimed at promoting an inclusive and participatory constitutional reform process.
Speaking after the meeting, Chief Minister Sengeh described the discussions as insightful and forward-looking, commending Mrs. Gento-Kamara for her extensive knowledge of constitutional law and the amendment process. He noted her strong commitment to ensuring that the collective views and professional opinions of lawyers across the country are adequately represented in the reform process.
The engagement underscored the crucial role of the legal profession in shaping constitutional reforms and strengthening democratic governance. Mrs. Gento-Kamara emphasised the responsibility of the Bar Association to contribute meaningfully to national dialogue while safeguarding the rule of law and the integrity of the Constitution.
Beyond constitutional issues, Chief Minister Sengeh also acknowledged the progress made by Mrs. Gento-Kamara and her executive in advancing the programmes of the Sierra Leone Bar Association. He highlighted ongoing efforts in capacity building, resource mobilisation, and the pursuit of sustainable investments aimed at improving the welfare and professional development of lawyers nationwide.
He described these initiatives as evidence of focused and results-oriented leadership that continues to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Bar Association. The Chief Minister expressed interest in receiving the Association’s formal submissions and recommendations on the Constitution Amendment Bill, noting that such input would be invaluable to the reform process.
