Ambassador WU noted that, women play a crucial role in the civilization and development of contemporary society.

Ambassador WU shared Chinese experiences and progresses on protecting women rights, saying the Chinese government attached great importance on women affairs and has also been supporting international organizations including the UN Women to promote gender equality. He reiterated that, the Chinese Embassy in Freetown would enhance cooperation and communications with UN Women country team in Sierra Leone to implement programs on women affairs.

Ms. Okumu briefly introduced the programs they were working on in Sierra Leone, and pointed out the important role women play in the development of society. She said that as UN agency they were trying to contribute to addressing the challenges women facing in Sierra Leone.

Ms. Okumu also spoke highly of the great contributions from China towards education and health in Sierra Leone. These contributions, she stressed, had in turn helped to provide solutions to women challenges in the country. She expressed optimism that cooperation between the Chinese Embassy and the UN Women office in Sierra Leone would further help to advance women affairs in Sierra Leone.
