The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, UmaruNapoleon Koroma, has renewed its call on Sierra Leoneans living abroad to move beyond remittances and embrace sustainable investments that create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and contribute to national development.

The appeal was made during the 4th Annual Sierra Leone Diaspora Investment Conference, where government officials engaged members of the diaspora on investment opportunities available across various sectors of the economy.

Speaking on the outcomes of the conference, Minister Koroma, said participants were presented with evidence demonstrating the country’s readiness to attract and safeguard investments through improved policies, legislation, and institutional reforms.

According to him, the two-day conference served as a platform to showcase Sierra Leone’s investment potential and the government’s efforts to create a conducive business environment for both local and international investors.

Delivering the keynote address, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh emphasised the critical role of the diaspora in the country’s development agenda. He noted that meaningful national progress cannot be achieved without the active participation of citizens, regardless of where they reside.

The Vice President encouraged Sierra Leoneans abroad to become partners in the nation’s transformation by investing in productive sectors capable of generating employment and supporting economic growth.

He further highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening investor confidence through reforms aimed at improving governance, transparency, and ease of doing business.

Participants at the conference were urged to take advantage of the investment opportunities available and to test the systems established to facilitate safe, secure, and profitable investments in Sierra Leone.

Deputy Minister Koroma expressed confidence in the country’s economic prospects, stressing that the environment is increasingly favourable for investment.

“At this stage, the only risk of not investing in Sierra Leone now is not taking the risk at all,” he remarked.

The conference forms part of ongoing efforts by the Government of Sierra Leone to deepen engagement with the diaspora and mobilize investment capital that can contribute to sustainable economic development and national prosperity.
