Socio-political commentator, journalist and senior member of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden OOR, has formally announced her political intentions within the Party before its 2026 National Delegates Conference.
In her New Year message on January 1, 2026, Dr. Blyden reflected on her years of successive journey within the APC Party, and revealed that she is actively considering three major options in the Party’s forthcoming National Delegates Conference.
She said she is contemplating contesting for either the APC 2028 Presidential Flagbearer position, the National Deputy Chairman, or ensuring non-participation in any active leadership position of the Party.
Dr. Blyden said, “At this moment, as a holder of the APC’s highest ever level of party membership status of Honorary Foundation Member, I am examining the following as my options: APC 2028 Presidential Candidate, APC 2026-2029 National Deputy Chairman, non-participation in any Active Leadership. In the coming weeks leading on to the APC 2026 National Delegates Conference, I will be consulting so as to firm up which of the above three options I will seek to embark upon. I see myself as quite fit and very competent to serve as either 2028 Presidential Candidate or as National Deputy Chairman”.
She explained long-serving services to the Party, stating, “I already have served the APC in many other previous critical roles spanning over 25 years now. I have served on the highest decision making body of the APC which is the National Delegates Conference (NDC) from 2013 to 2017. I have been co-opted into the second-highest decision making body of the APC which is the National Advisory Committee (NAC) and I have also provided technical and other critical advice in numerous roles over a period spanning over 25 years now since the time I first started to finance the APC in 1999/2000 with my personal funds – that was back then in 1999 which was a time when only a handful of us had enough Faith to see the APC as an empty castle but with a lot of potentials to become a Vehicle that can be used to serve Sierra Leone and to save our people”.
Dr. Blyden sighted that in 1999, when people like herself invested in the growth of the APC with her personal money, time and energy, many others did not share their aspirations for the APC. She said she respects such people who are now on board, but they should also respect Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, for her investments into the APC at a time when they were nowhere around the APC.
