Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, Chairman of the Energy Governance Coordination Group (EGCG), held a meeting with the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) at the Ministry of Energy.

The session aimed to convey President Julius Maada Bio’s directive to maximize potential and improve service delivery across the energy sector.

During the meeting, Dr. Yumkella emphasized the composition and objectives of the newly established EGCG, noting that President Bio had appointed him to lead the group and oversee critical reforms aligned with the President’s vision for the energy sector.

“We are all equals here. My role, acting on behalf of the President, focuses on delivering results, addressing challenges, meeting targets, and safeguarding the sector’s reputation,” Dr. Yumkella stated, pledging to ensure that accurate information reaches the President.

He acknowledged the current crisis in the energy sector but expressed confidence that with professionalism, teamwork, and dedication, significant improvements could be made.

“I specifically requested this meeting with the PIU because the President frequently receives feedback regarding ongoing projects in the sector,” he added.

Alexanda Nikolic, Project Coordinator at EDSA, provided updates on key projects, including the Energy Sector Utility Reform Project (ESURP) and the Regional Emergency Solar Power Intervention Project (RESPITE).

He outlined the progress made, detailing the challenges faced and expressing gratitude to donor partners, particularly the World Bank, for their continued support.

“When projects are executed effectively, it strengthens donor confidence,” Nikolic remarked.

As the government continues its reforms in the energy sector, the efforts remain closely linked to the broader “Feed Salone” agenda, underscoring the critical role energy plays in national development.
