With the direction and guidance of H.E President Julius Maada Bio’s energy vision, Kambia Town is now lit for the first time in over four decades.
On the instruction of the President, the Energy Sector Lead, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has been on the ground for the past five days, personally supervising the ongoing electrification process and working side by side with EDSA engineers. His hands-on leadership is fast transforming the President’s vision of “Light for Every District” into reality.
Four major transformers, Romacca, Military Barracks, IDA, and Police Barracks, all constituting Transformers 1,2,3 and 4, have now been energized, bringing stable electricity to homes already connected to the grid. Engineers continue to expand the connections to more areas in the township.
Dr. Yumkella urged residents to take responsibility by wiring their homes properly and registering for meters, noting that, “Electricity is now available in Kambia, all we need is for our people to wire their homes and get connected to the grid.”
Lead EDSA Engineer in Kambia, Alhassan Bangura, confirmed the significant progress made within the past week and assured residents of continued efforts to finish the job in a few weeks.
During his visit, Dr. Yumkella also stopped by the Kambia Hope and Healing Initiative Center, a rehabilitation facility for young people recovering from substance abuse. On behalf of His Excellency President Bio, he pledged free electrical installation and a meter for the center, encouraging the youth to embrace the President’s call to stay away from drugs and build productive lives.
Addressing a jubilant crowd at the Kambia Lorry Park, Dr. Yumkella appealed to citizens to safeguard the new infrastructure. “This light belongs to all of us,” he said. “Let us protect it, use it wisely, and ensure it stays on.”
As lights return to Kambia after decades of darkness, the progress reflects a broader truth, President Bio’s commitment to energy access is being realized, powered by the relentless drive of his Sector Lead, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella.
