A new chapter has begun for Sierra Leone’s electoral management body as Edmond Alpha officially took the oath of office as Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).
The swearing-in ceremony was held at State House, marking a significant moment for the country’s democratic institutions.
In taking the oath, Alpha pledged to uphold the Constitution and execute his duties with integrity, neutrality, and professionalism. His appointment places him at the helm of an institution central to safeguarding credible elections and strengthening public trust in the democratic process.
Mr. Alpha said, “My leadership will be based on open door policy and my management will ensure every eligible Sierra Leonean get the right to exercise his franchise.”
Observers note that leadership transitions within the ECSL are closely watched, given the Commission’s critical mandate to conduct, supervise, and regulate public elections and referenda across Sierra Leone.
