The European Union (EU) has held a successful dialogue session with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Local Authorities as part of preparations for the updated EU Civil Society Roadmap 2026–2028 and the forthcoming 2028 EU financing cycle.
The engagement brought together more than 80 participants, both physically and virtually, who shared perspectives on strengthening cooperation between the EU and civil society to support Sierra Leone’s development priorities.
The dialogue forms part of the EU’s commitment to promoting inclusive and participatory engagement under the 4th Generation EU Civil Society Roadmap (2025–2028). Participants examined Sierra Leone’s evolving economic, governance, and demographic landscape while identifying key areas where civil society can play a greater role in national development.
Discussions focused on strengthening regular dialogue between the EU and CSOs, increasing civil society participation in governance reforms, policy development, and EU-supported programmes, and promoting transparency, accountability, and democratic values through the Global Gateway 360-degree approach, which emphasises sustainable and value-driven investments.
Stakeholders also identified priority areas for the 2028 EU financing cycle, including governance, climate resilience, economic integration, and human development. Participants further called for stronger collaboration among Civil Society Organisations, Local Authorities, and the European Union to maximise development impact.
The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with civil society as a key partner in advancing inclusive governance, accountability, sustainable development, and improved service delivery across Sierra Leone.
