Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, a senior and distinguished member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has called on party members and supporters to closely study and reflect on key provisions of the party’s constitution, particularly Articles 16A to 16D, describing them as central to maintaining discipline, unity, and institutional integrity within the party.
In a strongly worded statement, the Dr. Bio emphasised that the SLPP Constitution is not merely a procedural document but a guiding framework that defines the party’s values, leadership structure, and internal accountability mechanisms. According to her, understanding the constitution is a responsibility for every committed member, not a matter of convenience.
She noted that the referenced articles underscore the importance of order, due process, and respect for party institutions, warning against approaches to politics driven solely by personal ambition. “Political leadership is not about entitlement, but about accountability,” she stated, adding that discipline and structure must take precedence over individual interests.
Describing herself as a proud, paid-up Distinguished Grand Chief Patron of the SLPP, Dr. Bio said hermembership represents more than a title. It reflects a personal commitment to uphold the party’s constitution, protect its legacy, and preserve unity within its ranks.
She further stressed that genuine patriotism and party loyalty are demonstrated through service, humility, and sacrifice, rather than the pursuit of power. According to her, leadership must be rooted in service to the people, with power serving only as a means to advance national development and cohesion.
The statement comes at a time when internal party processes and constitutional adherence are increasingly part of national political discourse. She concluded by urging members to not only read and understand the SLPP Constitution but to live by its principles, describing this as essential to strengthening the party and safeguarding Sierra Leone’s democratic foundations.
