Major General Brima Sesay commonly known as Bureh Sesay attended several military courses as well as academic courses.  Prominent among them are the Junior Command & Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command & Staff College in Nigeria,  the International Logistics Officers’ Course in the United Kingdom,  the Executive Seminar on Legal Aspect of the Military in a 21st Century Society, the Senior Command & Staff Course at  Ghana Armed Forces Command & Staff College in Ghana, the Defense Management Course, the International Peace Support Operations Course in Ghana,  the Next Generation of African Leaders Course at the National Defense University in Washington DC,  USA and the National Defense College Course in Nigeria. Added to his academic qualifications, Major General Sesay holds a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and a postgraduate diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Public Administration & Management.

General Brima Sesay has held various appointments in the RSLAF among them ranging from Platoon Commander,  Adjutant,  Staff Officer grade 3 Operations, Company Commander,  Aide De Camp (ADC), Military Assistant (MA),  Commanding Officer of the Joint Logistics Unit,  Deputy Chief of Staff at the Joint Force Command HQ,  Commander of the 4th Infantry Brigade,  Chief of Staff at the Joint Force Command HQ,  Commander 3 Infantry Brigade,  Assistant Chief of Defense Staff Operations and Plans and Commander Joint Force Command.

Major General Sesay is a recipient of the Ministerial Award for Meritorious and Dedicated Service to the Republic of Sierra Leone. 

He is happily married to Mrs. Sunkarie Sesay and they are blessed with five children.  His hobbies include reading, watching movies, jogging and playing volley ball.
