Accepting the award H.E. Mrs. FATIMA MAADA BIO, The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone and Merck More Than a Mother Ambassador said “On behalf of the people of Sierra Leone, we welcome the long term partnership with Merck Foundation to build health care capacity and address our health challenges in my country. I myself ensure the execution and continuation of these joint programs through my office and our Ministry of Health who are present with us today to discuss our strategy and our interventions together.”

H. E. Fatima Maada Bio attended the Sixth Edition of “Merck Africa Asia Luminary” in Accra, Ghana co-chaired by H.E. Madam Rebecca Akufo-Addo, The First Lady of Republic of Ghana and Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation. 

In attendance also were African First Ladies and Ministers of Health, Gender and Education from 20 countries. 

With health professionals from over 58 countries, the also foundation sponsors Doctors and Nurses from Sierra Leone for further specialist studies abroad. 

The Merck Africa Asia Luminary annual conference was organised in partnership with the First Lady of Ghana in collaboration with the government of Ghana from the 29th & 30th October, Accra, Ghana.

Merck Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people and advance their lives through since and technology. Their efforts are primarily foused on improving access to quality and equitable healthcare solutions, building healthcare, scientific research and media capacity and empowering people in STEM with a special focus on women and youth in under-served communities.
