Five Sierra Leonean law enforcement officers have successfully graduated from a specialised training program in Intelligence Collection and Analysis Methods at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Gaborone.
The training, funded by the United States, brought together 35 officers from six African countries, focusing on strengthening regional capacity to combat drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
Participants were equipped with advanced skills in intelligence gathering, analysis, and strategic operations aimed at disrupting criminal networks that operate across borders. The program also emphasised collaboration among African security agencies to enhance coordinated responses to emerging security threats.
Officials noted that initiatives like this are critical in building the capacity of law enforcement institutions, particularly in addressing complex crimes such as drug trafficking and organised criminal activities.
The training forms part of broader U.S. support to African partners in promoting regional security and stability. By strengthening intelligence systems and operational effectiveness, the program is expected to contribute to safer communities both within Africa and beyond.
Security experts say the knowledge gained by the Sierra Leonean officers will play a vital role in improving intelligence-led policing and reinforcing efforts to tackle crime at both national and international levels.
