Information gathered have it that government hospitals nationwide do not adhere to the provisions in the Free Health Care Initiative packages and consequently, beneficiaries continue to pay for services despite the president announced that services were free for them.

According to reliable sources, even though there is a service chapter in all Government Hospitals on how the Free Health Care Initiative should operate, over 70% of pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under five years who go for various treatments in those hospitals are illiterate and health workers take advantage of their situation to extort money from them for services they are not supposed to pay for.

It is learnt that pregnant women, suckling mothers and children under five continue to pay for scanning, medicine, blood and other Facilities in Government Hospitals that are under the (FHC) packages.
