Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has celebrated the fifth anniversary of the launch of the ambitious Transform Freetown plan.

Launched on January 24, 2019, the transformative initiative has set the stage for significant advancements in the city, with a focus on four clusters, 11 priority sectors, and 19 targets.

The Transform Freetown plan, a cornerstone of Mayor Aki-Sawyerr’s first term, has been instrumental in guiding the interventions of the Freetown City Council over the past half-decade. Annually published Transform Freetown reports, showcasing the progress made against the outlined targets, are available for public access on the official Freetown City Council website.

In commemorating this milestone, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr highlighted the progress achieved thus far, stating, “Five years on, a great deal has been achieved, and more is being done now!” The mayor emphasized the plan’s success in driving positive change and development across various sectors within the city.

As part of the commemorative events, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr and her team engaged in a significant meeting with the Port Loko City Council.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of the 5th anniversary of Transform Freetown, underscoring the importance of collaboration and partnership between cities in Sierra Leone.

During the meeting with Mayor Badara Tarawallie and his team from Port Loko, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr shared insights into the meticulous process of developing the Transform Freetown plan.

The discussions resulted in both parties agreeing to formalize their commitment through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on collaboration.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “It was poignant that on the 5th anniversary of the launch of Transform Freetown, we hosted Mayor Badara Tarawallie and his team as we began a city partnership engagement.”

She emphasized the significance of cities working together to achieve shared goals and enhance the overall development of the nation.

As Freetown continues to celebrate the progress made over the past five years, the city looks forward to the future with a renewed commitment to the transformative vision outlined in the Transform Freetown plan.

The collaboration with Port Loko City Council stands as a testament to the enduring impact of Freetown’s strategic initiatives on fostering regional partnerships for sustainable development.
