Mohamed Gento Kamara, former mayoral candidate for Freetown under the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has announced his decision to quit politics, citing division and backstabbing within the political space.

Speaking on Radio Democracy, Gento said politics was never his personal ambition and confirmed he has no plans to continue in the field. “Politics is not for me,” he stated.

He explained that his entry into politics was driven by a desire to promote peace and reduce tribal divisions in Freetown. During his mayoral campaign, he said, he worked to make the political process more accessible and inclusive.

Gento noted that while he is leaving politics, he will continue his philanthropic work, focusing on youth empowerment, community development, and support for social initiatives.

Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Gento said his mayoral bid was meant to show that leadership is possible for anyone with the right intentions.
