The government has approved and will commence payment of gratuity arrears for all retired military personnel under the implementation of Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129.
According to the Ghana Armed Forces, personnel who retired from November 2020 will receive arrears base on the new gratuity formula.
In a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, the Ghana Armed Forces said Payments will be made in four instalment between February 2026 and December 2027 and the first tranche will hit the account on Friday, February 27, 2026.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to update the general public that the Government has approved and will commence payment of gratuity arrears for all retired military personnel under the implementation of Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129. Upon assumption of office, the Current Military High Command initiated engagements with the Ministry of Finance and Defence to resolve the 5-year long-standing impasse over the gratuity formula under CI 129.” The statement read.
“These consultations have now resulted in a clear two-year phase implementation roadmap.Key highlights of the approval are that all personnel who retired from November 2020 will receive arrears base on the new gratuity formula.” It said.
“Payments will be made in four instalment between February 2026 and December 2027. The first tranche will be released by close of business on Friday, February 27, 2026. A total 238 officers and 2, 155 soldiers will benefit. Consequently, all future retirements will be processed fully in line with CI 129.” The Ghana Armed Forces added.
“This development brings closure to a matter that had remained unresolved since 2020 and ensure that affected personnel and all others who will retire subsequently receive their full entitlements at the correct rate.’
