Senior government officials and policymakers in Sierra Leone are currently participating in a two-day executive training focused on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies, as part of efforts to strengthen digital governance across the public sector.
The training is being organised by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI) in collaboration with the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NC3).
The programme was formally opened by the Director and Chief Operating Officer of DSTI, Jasper Patrick Sembie, who highlighted the importance of strengthening leadership capacity in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Speaking at the opening session, Sembie emphasized that government leaders must be equipped with the knowledge and strategic understanding required to navigate key issues such as artificial intelligence governance, cybersecurity resilience, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies within public institutions.
According to organisers, the training is designed to enhance the ability of senior officials to develop informed policies and governance frameworks that support innovation while safeguarding national digital infrastructure.
The programme is being facilitated by experts from DSTI and NC3, in partnership with Qhala, a Nairobi-based digital transformation firm that works with governments across Africa to improve AI literacy, strengthen technology governance structures, and promote responsible digital transformation within the public sector.
Officials say the initiative forms part of Sierra Leone’s broader strategy to build secure, ethical, and future-ready digital governance systems capable of supporting national development and protecting critical information infrastructure.
The training also reflects ongoing efforts by government institutions to ensure that policymakers remain informed about global technological trends and the regulatory challenges associated with rapidly advancing digital technologies.
