Hon. Fallah Tengbeh, Member of Parliament for Kailahun district, has disclosed that MamadyDoumbouya, President of Guinea, has agreed to withdraw Guinean military troops from the disputed border town of Yenga.
According to Hon. Tengbeh, whose constituency includes Yenga, the decision was reached during high-level discussions held in Conakry, involving Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone and Joseph Nyuma Boakaiof Liberia under the Mano River Union framework.
He described the outcome of the tripartite summit as a significant breakthrough in addressing the long-standing border dispute between Sierra Leone and Guinea, which has been a source of tension for years.
The Yenga issue has remained a sensitive matter in bilateral relations, with both countries seeking a lasting and peaceful resolution through diplomatic engagement.
Hon. Tengbeh noted that the agreement signals renewed political will among the Mano River Union leaders to prioritise peace, dialogue, and regional cooperation in handling cross-border concerns.
Observers say the planned withdrawal of troops is expected to ease tensions on the ground, restore residents’ confidence in affected communities, and create an enabling environment for stability and development in the border region.
The development is also seen as a positive step toward strengthening ties between Sierra Leone and Guineaand reinforcing broader efforts to maintain peace and security in the Mano River basin.
