The High Court of Sierra Leone presided over by the Honourable Justice A.T. Ganda J has formally adopted the Minutes of Settlement Agreement in the matter between The State Vs Abu Kamara.
Abubakarr Turay, Director of Public Education and Outreach Department said as part of the settlement terms, Abu Kamara has forfeited to the State a fully furnished four-storey building and land at No.8 Cemetery Road, off Peninsular Road, OgooFarm; a two-storey building and land at off Peninsular Road, Black Johnson; and an incomplete two-storey building situated at Galun Road, Bo city.
He said the Court further vested the ACC with the sole authority to sell and dispose of the said properties by private treaty, ensuring their conversion into public value in line with the law and the public interest, adding that this outcome reflects the ACC’s innovative, results-driven, and restorative justice approach to the fight against corruption.
Abubakarr Turay said, “This Non-Conviction Asset Recovery model provides for the recovery of assets and restitution to the State, thereby sending a resounding and unambiguous message that the corrupt will not be allowed to enjoy from the proceeds of their illicitly-acquired wealth, while also holding them accountable”.
He said the Commission continues to reassure the general public of its unwavering commitment to protect State Resources and the recovery of illicitly-acquired wealth.
