Acting National Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party, Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh, has called on Sierra Leoneans to give deeper meaning to Independence beyond symbolism.
In his Independence Day message, he emphasised that true independence should be reflected in the daily lives of citizens through dignity, access to opportunities, and hope for a better future.
He said, “If our forebears could unite in 1898 under far greater adversity, then surely we can unite today to correct our course and secure our future.”
Marking 65 years of independence, Yansaneh noted that the country must confront pressing challenges, warning that the ideals of unity, justice, and shared prosperity are increasingly under strain due to division, hardship, and a widening gap between leadership and the people.
He stressed that the rule of law must take precedence over political interests, and that the wellbeing of citizens should remain the top priority.
The APC, he affirmed, remains committed to upholding these principles while advocating for a more inclusive, just, and united Sierra Leone. See page 4 for full address.
