Fatmata Tucker was sentenced to 30 years for murder but she has already served 5 years behind bars. Tucker was among 18 female inmates auditioned for the upcoming Miss Correctional 2019. The program aims to rehabilitate female inmates behind bars and further reduce crime rates in the country. The pageant is organized by the Gender and Equal Opportunity Unit of the Female Correctional Service in partnership with SaloneJamboree. The event is dubbed: ‘Miss Correctional 2019’ with the theme: ‘Reform and Rehabilitate Inmates for a better society.’

Former Beauty Queen, Hawa Kamara was the chief judge for the event. The judges test the contestants on catwalk, articulation, attitude, and charisma. Most of the contestants expressed thanks to the correctional service and SaloneJamboree for these initiatives. They said they have learned so many positive things behind bars and if they are released they promised to be better individuals to their families and society. All of the contestants signed consent forms to use their images and videos throughout.

10 of the inmates were selected to compete for the star prices. The prices will include cash price and start-up tools/pieces of equipment if any of them are eventually released. The program also will follow up with these inmates to their communities to see how they are doing.

The event is scheduled for November 15th, 2019 and selected members will be invited to attend.
