The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has announced that the newly constructed Jendema Border Post is delivering significant gains in revenue collection and border management along the Sierra Leone-Liberia frontier.
Speaking during the National Civic Day Series in Pujehun district, Philip Kargbo, Director of Research, Planning and Monitoring at the National Revenue Authority, said the modern facility has enhanced the monitoring of cross-border trade and movement while strengthening the government’s ability to collect revenue.
Dr. Kargbo noted that domestic revenue mobilisation has become increasingly important as development partners reduce financial assistance, emphasising that taxes collected by the NRA are playing a vital role in financing national development initiatives.
He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, including road construction and electricity expansion in Pujehun district, as examples of how tax revenues are being utilised to improve the lives of citizens and stimulate economic growth.
The NRA official also called on members of the public to demand Goods and Services Tax (GST) receipts whenever they make purchases, stressing that tax compliance is essential for promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
According to Dr. Kargbo, increased public participation in the tax system will help government generate the resources needed to expand services and create more economic opportunities across the country.
Looking ahead, he disclosed that the NRA plans to establish an operational presence in Solima as part of efforts to improve service delivery and harness the area’s growing economic potential.
The NRA is currently supporting activities under the National Civic Day Series and is expected to continue its public tax education campaign during a town hall meeting scheduled to take place in Pujehun today June 2, 2026.
The authority says the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen civic engagement, improve tax compliance, and enhance public understanding of the role domestic revenue plays in national development.
