Traditional authorities in Kamaranka chiefdom have pledged stronger collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police following a renewed community policing drive led by the KamakwieDivision.
The initiative, carried out during Independence Day activities, places community ownership at the center of local security efforts. During a patrol and outreach session, Local Unit Commander, Superintendent John S. Koroma, engaged residents on the need for closer cooperation with law enforcement to prevent crime and maintain peace.
He emphasised that effective policing depends on trust and timely information from the public, noting that community participation remains critical in addressing security challenges at the grassroots level. He also encouraged the identification of responsible youths within the chiefdom who could be trained as Community Safety Volunteers to support local policing structures.
In response, Paramount Chief Kandeh Gbetgbo Bangura III welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the chiefdom’s commitment to working with the police. He commended the professionalism of officers in the area and described the engagement as a vital step toward strengthening peace and stability.
The Paramount Chief further highlighted social challenges affecting the community, urging parents to guide young people away from violence and prioritise education as a pathway to responsible citizenship.
On behalf of the chiefdom, he confirmed their active participation in the Local Policing Partnership Board, signaling a unified approach to community safety.
The engagement reflects broader efforts by the Sierra Leone Police to deepen trust, enhance cooperation, and promote shared responsibility in maintaining law and order across communities.
