The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed that it is actively pursuing diplomatic and security engagements to verify the whereabouts and secure the unconditional release of Sierra Leonean soldiers and police officers reportedly kidnapped by members of the Guinean Armed Forces (GAF).
According to official sources, the incident occurred in the border town of Kalieyereh, Sulima Chiefdom, Falaba District, where the joint security personnel had been deployed. Reports indicate that the officers were attacked before being taken into custody.
In a statement, the government assured citizens that the matter has been formally communicated to relevant national, regional, and sub-regional authorities. It emphasized that established diplomatic and security mechanisms are being utilized to pursue a peaceful and amicable resolution.
Authorities further noted that efforts remain ongoing to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure the safe and unconditional release of the affected personnel.
