Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon Lusine Kallon has officially handed over the chiefdom rice production to the paramount chiefs of Kono district, for it to be well nurtured and protected. Deputy Minister re-echoed that “The Youth are the hub for development and the soil is our bank, not mining because mining is temporal whereas Agriculture provides secured jobs and contributes toward our national economy.”

In a brief statement, the District Youth Council Chairman said “There is life after diamond and the alternatives for youth in Kono district are Education and Agriculture. And President Julius Maada has come with the Free Quality Education and now Chiefdom Youth Rice (Farm) production. We in Kono district wholeheartedly embrace and accept this and we are going to come first in the Chiefdom Rice Production”.
