According to the charge sheet, the accused person on 31st March, 2018 at Mafa Field in Freetown conspired with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit: assault.

It further stated that the accused person on the same date and place assaulted Patrick Jaiah Kamara in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm. It further stated that the accused person allegedly maliciously damaged one Canon camera worth eleven million, seven hundred thousand Leones; property of Patrick Jaiah Kamara.

Lead Defense Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya applied for bail to be granted to his client stating that he is a former City Mayor and a senior citizen of Sierra Leone with fixed abode, adding that if granted bail he would not interfere with witnesses or jump bail.

“The accused person in the dock was granted bail at the Criminal Investigations Department for the past one month and he has been helping the police with investigations. He has been reporting to the police religiously and he is willing to stand his trial and therefore, he will be before this honorable court as and when he is needed,” he told the court.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector I.G Fofanah responded saying that it is the discretion of the Magistrate to grant bail and called on the Magistrate to consider the weight of the charges for which the accused is before the court.

Magistrate Santigie Bangura told the court that after considering the status of the accused person as a senior citizen with fixed abode living within the Freetown jurisdiction; he was using that to grant the accused person bail.

The accused was represented by Lawyer L. Dumbuya, R.A Nylander, I. Mansaray and M. Sesay. The matter was prosecuted by Inspector I.G Fofanah.

The matter was adjourned to Friday 8 June, 2018.
