Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh has called on citizens to shift their focus away from partisan politics and concentrate on national development, emphasising unity and collective progress.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said, “Let’s forget politics a bit and focus on development. Together we are delivering.” He stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved in a peaceful environment built on continuous dialogue and engagement among all stakeholders.
Dr. Sengeh revealed that members of the international “Moral Guarantors” mission recently concluded a visit to Sierra Leone, during which they held discussions with key national figures, including President Julius Maada Bio, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, civil society groups, political parties, and the media.
He noted that he monitored the mission closely while on an official trip to Antalya, Turkey, and later received a full briefing at the conclusion of their engagements.
Highlighting his multiple roles, including Chief Minister, Chief Negotiator for the Agreement for National Unity, and Chairman of the Steering Committee for implementing the Tripartite Report recommendations, Dr. Sengeh reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance. He stated that his office remains open to all political parties, including the opposition All People’s Congress (APC).
He welcomed the APC’s decision to resume participation in Parliament and local councils, describing it as a positive step toward national cohesion.
Dr. Sengeh also acknowledged the leadership of President Bio and the mediation efforts of Vice President Jalloh, underscoring the importance of collaboration in advancing the country’s development agenda.
“Political parties will always have differences,” he said, “but we must work through them for the betterment of Mama Salone. Let’s set politics aside for a bit and focus on development. Together we are delivering.”
