Authorities in Makeni City have recently announced a ban on the use of megaphones and loud sound devices in public areas. The decision was made in response to increasing noise pollution caused by traders.
According to city officials, the excessive noise has been a major disturbance to residents, especially around schools, hospitals, and residential communities. The ban aims to restore peace and reduce noise-related complaints across the municipality.
Law enforcement and city council officers have been instructed to monitor and enforce the new regulation, with penalties set for violators. Citizens and business owners are being encouraged to use alternative means of communication, such as posters, flyers, social media or radio advertisements.
The Makeni City Council emphasised that the move is not against businesses or public communication but is part of efforts to maintain order, public health, and a serene city environment.
