The State alleged that the accused person Cyprian Anoyo Ndefo conspired with other persons unknown to import a prohibited drug to wit: Cocaine from Brazil to Sierra Leone.
He is also charged with the offense of Unlawful Possession of a Prohibited Drug to wit: Cocaine, contrary to section (8a) of the National Drugs Control Act of 2008.
Court record further indicated that after the accused person was arrested at the Freetown International Airport, he excreted thirty five pellets of cocaine weighing 0.6 kilograms after going to the toilet three times.
Led in evidence by Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray, Detective Sergeant Osman Fofanah testified in court that he recalled the incident of 5th August 2018, and that he was on duty at the Freetown International Airport Police Station.
He stated that while on duty, a team of police detectives arrested and brought in the accused person Cyprian Anoyo Ndefo together with the thirty five pellets of white substance suspected to be Cocaine.
According to Detective Sergeant Osman Fofanah, they obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused person, and that on 6 August 2018, he received a document from the Office of National Security (ONS) for further investigation.
The witness went on to say that during the course of the investigation, the accused person Cyprian Anoyo Ndefo admitted to the police that, he was in possession of thirty five pellets of white substances suspected to be Cocaine.
He noted that the case and enquiry file relating to the thirty five pellets of white substances suspected to be Cocaine was later sent to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation.
Another prosecution witness Superintendent of Police Ernestine Tucker stated that she is the forensic analyst at the Sierra Leone Police force, and that she is charged with the responsibility of collecting samples for analysis and present her findings to the relevant institution.
She intimated the court that, an envelope containing a quantity of white substances suspected to be Cocaine was submitted to her for forensic and laboratory examination.
Superintendent Ernestine Tucker testified that after conducting presumptive and confirmatory tests, the thirty five pellets of white substances suspected to be Cocaine proved to be Cocaine, adding that she recorded her findings which was produced and tendered in evidence.
The accused person Cyprian Anoyo Ndefo was defended by Barrister J.M Jengo and I. Kanu. Magistrate Santigie Bangura ordered that the accused person be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown. The matter comes up again on 6 September this year.
