Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE recently graced the stage at the World Bank, where she delivered a pivotal policy address and assumed roles as both a panelist and a respondent.

The event, co-convened by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the International Growth Centre (), and the Institute for International Economic Policy at George Washington University, drew together esteemed academics and development practitioners for a two-day discourse on urban expansion and the future of cities.

In addition to her prominent presence at the World Bank conference, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr OBE also took part in the Global Methane Hub (GMH) retreat earlier in the week. Addressing a select group of donor organizations, she emphasised the importance of initiatives aimed at curbing methane emissions in developing nations.

Notably, the Freetown City Council is collaborating with GMH to devise a strategy for composting organic market waste, a venture that promises to empower women through urban farming initiatives.

Anticipation runs high as the project awaits approval and gears up for implementation in the forthcoming months.

As the world celebrated International Women’s Day, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE expressed her delight in working alongside numerous other women and contributing to endeavors that uplift women and girls within their city.
