Metropolitan Police in Freetown have warned against illegal waste disposal by some Freetonians.

Speaking to AYV News, Head of Media and Communication at the Metropolitan Police Department in Freetown, Superintendent Mohamed I. Mansaray said the issue of unlawful disposal of garbage has posed some serious health challenge to city men and women.

He said one of the effects of this bad development is the risk of outbreaks such as Malaria, Cholera and Diarrhea.

He reminded the public about Section 3(1) of the Local Council Act which prohibits people disposing garbage on an unauthorised place(s).

He warned that anyone found guilty of disobeying the law will be prosecuted and if found guilty will pay a fine.

He said currently, the Council has deployed men and women across the city to check homes and spots for unauthorised disposals dumps.
