Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Honourable Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has said his ministry’s commitment to decent work is unwavering, adding that over the past years, he has implemented several initiatives to enhance employment opportunities and improve labour market conditions.

Minister Swaray represented Sierra Leone at the 6th Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers held in Doha, Qatar.

The two-day event, themed “Local Experiences, Global Achievements and Success Stories in the Islamic World,” convened officials from over 50 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss collaborative approaches to employment and social development.

Key resolutions adopted at the conference included the signing of a statute to establish an OIC Labour Centre to coordinate social development efforts, a renewed call for skills development and training across member states, and support for creating an enabling environment for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In his address, Minister Swaray expressed Sierra Leone’s firm commitment to promoting decent work and improving labour market conditions.

Minister Swaray also conveyed President Julius Maada Bio’s support for a peaceful, rules-based international order, referencing the ongoing situation between Israel and Hamas.

The conference concluded with the signing of the OIC statutes, marking a significant milestone in advancing international cooperation on labour and employment issues among member nations.
