The MOU was also prepared in light of the mutual understanding and the fact that the missions and visions of the two organizations are somewhat related in several ways as they both gear towards the promotion of democracy and human rights.

NCD’s Northern Region Commissioner, Bai J. Conteh, represented the Chairman of the Commission at the ceremony. He described the event as a defining moment that demystifies the negative perception that civil society organizations cannot work in the interest of national development.

On the side of the Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights, the National Coordinator, Dr. Mathew James said the ceremony was the first step in a very long venture.

He stressed that the MOU is posed to positively transform the country’s political landscape.

The official signing of the MOU by the two representatives of the organizations climaxed the event.

This MOU will serve in the interest of the general populace if the content is implemented to the letter.

The National Commission for Democracy was established to promote civic cautiousness and social cohesion in Sierra Leone, while the Network Movement for Democracy and Human Rights is a coalition of community based civil society and human rights organizations promoting human rights and governance.

These two nongovernmental organizations saw the need for collaboration as they pursue their respective missions and visions.
