The team comprised of the Regional Geologist-Alhaji Lamin Turay, the Mines Monitoring Officer- Sorie B. Sesay and Senior Mines Monitoring Officer-Abu Conteh.
Whilst applauding the company’s operation and effective management structure, NMA’s Regional Manager, Alieu Kamara said the agency was established by an Act of Parliament to serve as the technical wing of the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources responsible for the implementation of the Mines and Minerals Act of 2009.
He said the agency is promoting the development of the minerals sector; implement mining policies and regulations; enforce compliance with all mining laws and regulations; and promote the rights of communities.
Highlighting the services carried out by the agency, the Regional Geologist-Alhaji Lamin Turay said NMA provides laboratory services, GIS/Mapping Services and Cadastre System among others.
He also said that they are ready to support the company as long as it didn’t flout any law guiding their operations.
After a brief presentation by Dayu mining team, the NMA staff was taken on a conducted tour to assess the company’s equipment such as the processing plant and the community development projects such as road construction, Africell network tower and water dam.
After the tour, the NMA team stated that they were impressed with the progress already made by Dayu mining company.
The project which is in its construction phase currently employs over 200 Sierra Leoneans ranging from senior management to supervisory and below supervisory levels.
