Sierra Leone sprinter Ibrahim Karim Bangura has broken his personal best clocking 10.51 seconds in the Heat 10 of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games but prevented him of qualifying to the semi- finals in the 100m. However out of the nine sporting disciplines that are represented at the moment none has reached a final that will able them to secure medals for Sierra Leone.
Nine sporting Disciplines of Sierra Leone are currently representing the Country in the ongoing Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in London. The likes of Swimming, Athletics, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, Badminton and among others. So far non among those disciplines have won medal in the ongoing Games, sprinter Ibrahim Karim Bangura smashed 10.51sec with his previous of 10.55 in the 100meters but could not qualify to the semi-final of the event. He explains to more to Journalist Molai Kargbo on his performance amidst some challenges before the games.
Representing the Sierra Leone in the year’s Games is USA base sprinter Hafsatu Kamara. She ran in the round 1, heat 6 of the Women’s 100 meters finished 4th place with 11.80 seconds. She said it’s a good experience to represent Sierra Leone as this year’s game has been challenging preventing her to train actively for over five months and was depending only on jogging. He was also excited by stating that this year game is her third commonwealth Games to represent Sierra Leone.
Some disciplines like swimming, Boxing and others have made progress on their various events but with all indication there are no hope at the moment for Sierra Leone to clinch medal. With supports from Morlai Kargbo in Birmiham, Ransford Maclean reporting for AYV sports in Freetown.
On 24th July Sierra Leone delegation departed Freetown for the Birmingham commonwealth Games. The Chief of Mission for the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone confirmed to this medium that Sierra Leone Delegation made up of 60 persons in total comprised of twenty eight (28) Athletes and 3officials (Coaches, administrators and other government officials).
