The Government of Sierra Leone has summoned Malador Travel Agency following allegations that the company recruited 28 Sierra Leoneans under the pretext of securing employment opportunities in the State of Qatar.

The government further gave the Agency five days to pull together legitimate documents or face big consequences.

According to a statement from the Ministry, concerns were raised regarding the agency’s recruitment activities, prompting government intervention to ascertain whether the processes complied with established labour migration and overseas employment regulations.

The Ministry has urged Malador Travel Agency to fully adhere to all laws, policies, and procedures governing overseas recruitment and labour migration, emphasizing the need to protect Sierra Leoneans seeking employment opportunities abroad.

Officials stressed that safeguarding the welfare, rights, and safety of citizens participating in overseas employment programmes remains a key priority of the Government.

The Ministry further warned that appropriate action would be taken against any individual, agency, or institution found to be operating outside the legal framework regulating labour migration and international recruitment.

Authorities have assured the public that the matter is being carefully reviewed and that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure accountability and protect the interests of Sierra Leonean workers.

The Government has also reiterated its commitment to promoting safe, legal, and transparent labour migration channels while preventing the exploitation of citizens seeking employment opportunities overseas.

Further details are expected as investigations and engagements with the agency and other relevant stakeholders continue.
