Former Majority Leader of Parliament, Ibrahim RassinBundu, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), demanding a substantive ruling on the ongoing tenure extension dispute within the All People’s Congress (APC).
Speaking at a press conference, Bundu warned that failure by the Commission to deliver its ruling within the stipulated timeframe would result in legal action. He maintained that neither the APC nor the PPRC has the legal authority to extend the tenure of the party’s executive beyond February 18, 2026.
Citing Section 39(5) of the PPRC Act 2022, Bundu argued that any extension of executive tenure is limited to a maximum of six months. He further noted that the APC’s 2022 Constitution contains no provision permitting such an extension, describing the current leadership’s continued stay in office as a violation of both party regulations and national law.
Bundu also raised concerns over the PPRC’s handling of a court-ordered forensic audit into the party’s finances. According to him, the audit reportedly uncovered more than Le8 billion (old currency) in unaccounted funds from the APC’s 2017–2022 executive. He accused the Commission of failing to enforce compliance with annual financial reporting obligations as required by law.
In addition, the former lawmaker warned that individuals who served as executives during the 2017–2022 period and have since resumed similar roles could be in contempt of court. He referenced a perpetual injunction issued in 2022 by Justice Adrian Fischer, which he said has implications for the current leadership structure of the party.
He called on the PPRC to act decisively and uphold the rule of law, stressing that the credibility of political party governance depends on adherence to established legal frameworks.
The dispute over the APC’s internal leadership tenure has continued to generate debate within political circles, with observers noting that the Commission’s forthcoming decision could have significant implications for party administration and the broader democratic process in Sierra Leone.
