The Minister met with the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Father Alimamy Joseph Turay, Director of Finance and Administration, Rev. Father Humaru Sesay, the Dean of Academic Affairs, Rev. Father Shedu Sesay and other administrative staff.
Minister Gbakima disclosed that he was at the campus to sympathise with the University stakeholders and to ascertain the veracity of the unfortunate incident.
He promised to relay the information acquired to the appropriate authorities, while encouraging the administration to remain strong as they recover from the shock of the devastating incident.
The University administration expressed appreciation over the minister’s visit.
Director of Finance and Administration, Rev. Father Humaru Sesay, gave a comprehensive update of the incident.
He said the affected building was housing multi-million modern electronic gadgets that were recently donated to the University for the establishment of a radio and television station.
According to him, the donors have been accordingly informed and ‘they have responded positively towards ensuring that the media project survives’.
He said all the equipment that were stored in the building two days ahead of the incident were burnt to ash, while disclosing that the police is investigating the matter to ascertain whether it was a natural or artificial disaster.
Minister Gbakima was accompanied to Makeni by the Director of Science and Technology in the Ministry, Ms. Fatmata Kaiwa.
