The unpleasant and health threatening scenario has become very much worrisome to residents and passers-by of the community, especially when according to them the ugly development has lasted for close to three weeks now and authorities of the prison have done nothing to salvage the situation despite several complaints from community members.

“We are disappointed that the prison’s authorities and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation have refused to hear our cries. Our health is at stake and something very urgent needs to be done to save our lives.” Sanusi Sesay, a resident cries out.

An official of Health for All Coalition who spoke to this medium said leakages from septic tanks are not strange to Freetown as according to him, it had occurred in various parts of the country intermittently, especially those belonging to corporate institutions.

He recommended that stringent measures be instituted to squarely deal with those responsible to act timely before such escalate.
