In his opening remarks, Hon. Matthew Nyuma, states that since 60% of the committee members are new so therefore they have an objective to expose them to first practice within communication sector by creating an interaction with facilitators who have a wealth of knowledge about the industry.

  The training session he said, is for MPs to know the legal instrument and knowledge based of all the communications acts because they want to produce an oversight that can enhance the effectiveness of parliament and local government on the processes of checks and balances where necessary.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mohamed Bangura, in his comments,   said the committee is highly technical, so members should be familiarized with the act and the laws. He acknowledges the role and responsibility of parliament and that of unit heads under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

 Giving an overview of the Information Ministry, Hon I.B Kargbo, who is a Member of the Committee, gave an overview of the Information and Communications industry. He promised that as a committee to work with Minister in order to achieve the objectives of the Ministry whilst commending him for a good work done in the Ministry.

Hon. IB Kargbo said that the Committees is to serve as an oversight body over the communications and information industry, Such as SALCAB, SLBC, NATCOM, SLENA, SLPOST, Government printing services, access of information commission etc.

Making his presentation the Minister of Information and Communication Mr. Rado Swaray, highlighted the reforms within the Ministry and promised to work in line with the “New Direction “of president Bio’s government. He pinpointed on the strategic objectives of the ministry whilst commending former ministers of the Information Ministry.

The one day interactive session was climax by a Power point presentations by Mr. Mohamed Sheriff Managing Director of  SALCAB “on the gateway liberation and cyber security current status of SALCAB” ,whilst  Mr. Victor Findley Director  General ,NATCOM presented the mandates of the information and communications industry.
