The Parliament of Sierra Leone has ratified the Amendment to Article 10 (4) of the Constitution of the African Civil Aviation Commission Transport Agreement for the development of Sierra Leone.
The following Agreement was ratified by the Parliament of Sierra Leone:
Amendment to Article 10 (4) of the Constitution of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) was adopted by the Twenty-Eight (28th) Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the 31st January, 2017.
Presenting the Agreement to Parliament for ratification, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Fanday Turay described it as a significant step towards expanding Sierra Leone’s transportation infrastructure. He also said that the amendment was aimed at ensuring operational efficiency and efficacy. He added that the Agreement would establish a special agency for the improvements of the transportation sector within and outside the country.
Concluding the debate, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyumasaid the Agreement would place Sierra Leone in a better position to boosting its transportation sector.
Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of the amendment in order to position the country to meet international best practices. Hon. Nyuma also said that a quorum was necessary before a resolution could be taken by Parliament.
The Minister ended by acknowledging Parliament for ratifying the Agreement and said that additional Agreements and Bills would be brought to Parliament for consideration.
