According to Hon. Tarawally, he took up office on 17th April, 2018 and that one of his responsibilities is to conduct election for Speaker of Parliament but that the process for the election was not clear as he did not see correct preparation.

He added that for someone to be certified as Member of Parliament their names need to be on the Gazette, adding that eligible voters for Speaker of Parliament must also be gazetted as Members of Parliament.

He went on to say that on Tuesday 17th April, 2018 the Gazette arrived in parliament late and after consultation with parliament staff and the Speaker of Parliament they agreed to bring forward the date for parliament to sit to Tuesday 24th April, 2018 instead of on Thursday 26th April, 2018 which date had initially been announced.

On Tuesday 24th April, 2018 the Speaker of Parliament will call Members of Parliament for swearing-in to be followed by election for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament respectively.
