Honorable Mamoud Kamara aka Nice Guy representing the Western Area Urban, All Peoples Congress (APC) party has in his felicitation to the newly elected Speakers of Parliament called on them not to repeat the mistakes of previous Speakers.

His felicitation to the newly elected Speaker Hon. Solomon Sengehpoh Thomas and Deputy Speaker Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh during the 49th sitting of Parliament held on Tuesday 7th May, 2024.

Hon. Kamara opened his submission by thanking the acting Speaker Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh for giving him the opportunity to take the Floor to congratulate them on their elections.

He appreciated   his colleague MPs for electing his brother from Lumley in the person of Hon. Tawa as the Deputy Speaker for which he said he holds no doubt that he will deliver for the people and the country as a whole.

“On behalf of the people of Lumley, let me congratulate again Hon. Tawa as Deputy Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament. I wish you well in all your undertakings,” he said.

Hon. Mamoud likewise congratulated Hon. Thomas for his elections as Speaker of Parliament recalling when he first met Hon. Thomas while he was a Solicitor Clerk under Lawyer Mustapha Turay.

“I have no doubt that the Hon. Thomas will make a great Speaker of Parliament,” he noted.

On the need for a change of parliamentary course and fostering of trust and confidence reposed in lawmakers by the people, Hon. Mahmoud said that seeking the interest of members of their districts is key.

He also prayed for Gods wisdom in the way and manner that the Speakers would be presiding without fear or favor to either the SLPP or the APC but take decisions judiciously unlike in the past under previous Speakers.

He said that Hon. Thomas as the youngest Speaker at age 47 has age and agility on his side to ensure the right thing is done for all the sins committed in the Parliament.

He appealed that the sad events of the past  in which MPs were beaten and thrown  out of Parliament will never  be repeated,  “when elected MPs were  replaced with non-elected MPs, in which laws were passed by the minority voices, when opposition MPs were  punished for an act committed by both parties, when bad laws that do not serve the people of the nation  were bulldozed and forcefully laid in the Well of Parliament, so we would never again witness when the audit report is slapped with the backhand, now we are expecting the audit report to be debated.”

He however registered his absolute faith in the Speakership more so in helping him amplify the concerns of the people of his district.

He said: “The people Kaningo, Timiya Ground, Pentagon Hamburger Hill, etc, with a combine population of over fifty thousand people are facing untold sufferings due to deplorable road conditions. These are the concerns that I wish to tell you to help me amplify. I pray for your wisdom and Allah’s guidance.”
