He said the hospital had large capacity but the human resource was limited and challenged, adding that they had only 14 trained nurses and 3 doctors treating patients occupying over 100 beds. He said most times the hospital was 60 per cent full.

“…the capacity of the hospital is big but the human resources are very small. We are constrained by the availability of nursing staff, x-ray technicians, laboratory staff and hygienists. We have three doctors and three midwives, who are not enough to run the hospital” Dr. George lamented.

Most nurses in the hospital AYV had spoken to disclosed that pregnant women had continued to deliver at home, leading to many complications.

A lactating mother, Mabinty Kamara, complained that doctors and nurses would always delay to attend to them.

“I was referred to this hospital and the nurse asked me to buy candle. After some time I asked the nurse if she had been able to attend to my child but she got annoyed with me and rejected my child…I was here from 8am and it is past 2pm now and my child is yet to be attended to,” she claimed.
